It’s his devotion to her that leads him to the tragic misunderstanding that kickstarts the book’s plot, with his character arc revolving around him learning to co-exist with his anxiety. Prone to near-violent panic attacks, Kadou’s anxiety manifests itself over everything big and small that could become a problem to his dynasty and, most importantly, his sister. In Arasht, where princes can touch-taste precious metals with their fingers and myth runs side by side with history, counterfeiting is heresy, and the conspiracy they discover could cripple the kingdom’s financial standing and bring about its ruin. To prove his loyalty to the sultan, his sister, Kadou takes responsibility for the investigation of a break-in at one of their guilds, with the help of his newly appointed bodyguard, the coldly handsome Evemer, who seems to tolerate him at best. Kadou, the shy prince of Arasht, finds himself at odds with one of the most powerful ambassadors at court - the body-father of the queen’s new child - in an altercation which results in his humiliation. After a tragic misunderstanding, Kadou must prove his loyalty to his sultan by solving a mystery that could bring down their empire in A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland. So, in that regard, I already held this book to pretty high expectations. Let me start off this review by saying that I was lent this book by a very good friend and it is one of her all-time favorites (if not her top favorite). In this unique satirical novel about higher education, Mona Awad brings metaphors to life with a spooky, horrific narrative that will have readers thinking about it for ages to come. As Samantha finds herself plunged deeper and deeper into the world of the bunnies, reality starts to blur and so do her friendships. Yet, when Samantha receives a mysterious invitation to join her fellow students, the bunnies, at their infamous Smut Salon, Samantha finds herself drawn to their front door, and ditching her only friend in the process. It’s clear Samantha’s nothing like the elite clique on campus, a group of rich girls who call each other “Bunny,” and seem to move as one–right? She prefers the company of her own dark imagination, and her new friend and “townie,” Ava, who’s sinister sense of humor keeps her going. Samantha Mackey is a scholarship student at a prestigious university and it’s clear that she doesn’t fit in. “We call them Bunnies, because that is what they call each other” Mona Awad, bunny (3) SYNOPSIS Claflin’s educational torso man….Yet I owe the guy a debt of thanks. The author ties her curiosity about this region of the body and what many consider a disgusting or off-limits subject for polite conversation to a fifth-grade classroom encounter with a headless, limbless, molded-plastic torso: “Function was not hinted at in Mrs. Throughout her sojourn down the gastrointestinal tract, science writer Roach ( Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void, 2011 , etc.) enlists her abundant assets of intelligence and humor while dissecting this messy and astounding part of the human body. Garion travels through strange lands with master sorcerers Belgarath and Polgara in frantic pursuit of the Orb. If the stolen Orb of Aldur reaches him, he will surely gain what he desires. The evil God Torak covets dominion over all men. Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by those he loved - but did not know? For a while his dreams of innocence were safe, untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. But that was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the dark man without a shadow had haunted him for years. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. But Belgarath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected men of the West. Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil God Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. Not only does Cassie face an unwelcoming crew, she begrudgingly moves in with her estranged mother, who is dealing with serious health issues and desperately wants to reconnect. In the first of many surprises in this tale of ever ratcheting stakes, Cassie loses her cool and sets off a series of events that land her at an old-school firehouse near Boston where she is the first woman to serve. Ten years later, as the young firefighter is at the top of her game-accepted as one of the boys and receiving a service award-Cassie comes face to face with the high school boy who wreaked havoc on her life. Deciding that love is for the weak, Cassie replaced vulnerability with muscle mass and forged a career in emergency rescue. Hours later, a high school crush deeply violated her trust. But can she rescue herself from the emotional fortress she’s built and forgive those who have hurt her?Ī decade ago, Cassie’s 16th birthday was a one-two punch of heartbreak. Saving lives is not just a job for Austin firefighter Cassie Hanwell it’s core to who she is. There were certain scenes that definitely pushed boundaries and stepped over lines into discomfort, and a few sexual scenes with dubious consent at best. The story as a whole was a little predictable, a couple of things didn’t make sense, and the “twist” was easy to work out from quite early on in the book, though the character seemed intentionally obtuse about the clues at times. That is certainly true of this book on the small scale. This was my first book by Waggoner, Bram Stoker award winner, and he has long been praised as someone who pushes boundaries and does the unexpected. He’ll do whatever it takes to find his daughter, even if it means becoming a worse monster than the things that are trying to stop him. But no matter what Shadow throws at him, Jayce won’t stop. An enigmatic woman named Nicola guides Jayce through this bizarre world, and together they search for Emory, facing deadly dog-eaters, crazed killers, homicidal sex toys, and – worst of all – a monstrous being known as the Harvest Man. Jayce’s twenty-year-old daughter Emory is missing, lost in a dark, dangerous realm called Shadow that exists alongside our own reality. When 17-year-old Princess Charlotte of Mecklenberg-Strelitz (India Ria Amarteifio) is married off by her brother Adolphus (Tunji Kasim) to the young King George III of England (Corey Mylchreest), she quickly feels isolated thanks to her new husband's mercurial behavior, and the fact that she has more "Moorish" blood (a.k.a darker skin) than the Monarchy and the government expected.
